This unit has specifically been aligned to the Australian Science Curriculum year one. In the unit 'Below Our Feet' the ground and the area below is explored. Students engage in enquiry based learning by exploring features of the ground including collecting soil samples, sorting and classifying natural materials and looking at leaf litter and the vertebrate and invertebrate populations that it might support. Students develop understandings about the ground and its features and about their own dependence on the ground for many of their needs........ |
This unit has specifically been aligned to the Australian Science Curriculum year two. In this unit 'Barren or Bountiful' natural environments and their features including water, soil and vegetation are explored. The unit further examines the affects of natural and manmade activities on the environment. These include natural events such as flooding, windstorms, and fire and human activities such as development for housing and commercial purposes, mining and agriculture. Students explore the potential impacts from the use of natural resources on the sustainability of the local environment. Through an inquiry based learning approach, they investigate plant growth, find out how water supplies can become polluted and develop understandings about food webs and chains....... |
This unit has specifically been aligned to the Australian Science Curriculum foundation or 'prep' year. In the unit 'Our Special Place', students explore features of their local environment by using their senses of sight, hearing and touch. By using the classroom and particularly the local environment, students discover and explore features of their immediate environment.......
